Day 1 – Salento town and the Mirador
This bright colored city is a magical place full of tradition! What to do? Let’s check:
Walk around the city and enjoy the magic vibe;
Climb the brighful stairs to the “Mirador” to check the valley view;
Sit and enjoy a warm coffee or something more special like a “carajillo” (Coffee and Brandy);
Shop beautiful handicrafts in the multiple artesanal shop;
Eat the typical “Trucha” served in multiple ways;
At night, try one of the oldest Colombian game; “Tejo” which consists in exploding little packages of gunpowder by throwing a metal weigh from 5 meters away (or more if you are a PRO). The place to go is “Los Hermanos”.
Day 2 – Coffee Plantation and waterfall
The Second Day you can Explore one of the coffee plantation, we went to the OCASO coffee tour and we loved it! You will have all the experience of the coffee Production:
Going through the plantation and picking coffee seeds;
Seeing the all process: separation, fermentation, the dry process, toasting coffee and of course you will be able to try some fresh made coffee with the traditional method;
Going back from the Coffee Plantation you can walk some more (2 hours) and get to Santa Rita waterfall. The easiest way to get there is to ask people and enjoying the nature!
Day 3 – Cocora Valley
If you go to Salento you have to go to Cocora Valley! Here you will find wax palms, a species that can grow until 45mt (148ft) and rarely until 60mt (200ft), the tallest in the all world!
You can get there from Salento in a 20 minutes jeep ride, best way if you do the ride in the back standing up! Watch the video for best practice!
Once you get to Cocora Valley there is a beautiful 5 hour hike (round trip) to the tropical forest.
A natural paradise full of adventurous bridges and a hummingbird center at the top of the hike!
Other activities you can do in Salento are; horse riding, mountain biking, bird watching, hiking and camping!
